Experimental investigation and theoretical analysis of indentations on cuboid hard rock using a conical pick under uniaxial lateral stress

Stress conditions are critical in deep hard rock mining and significantly influence cuttability. The peak cutting force (PCF), work (CW), specific energy (SE) can reflect cuttability determine the feasibility saving of mechanized to some extent. In this paper, uniaxial lateral stress on was investigated by an indentation experiment cuboid using a conical pick, theoretical model proposed analyze PCF associated factors. PCF, CW, SE were used as indices measure regression analyses show that presents decreasing followed increasing stresses increases. established simplifying fragments into three-dimensional ellipse cones, formula derived based elastic fracture mechanics theory. error between calculated experimental values is 3.8%, which confirms accuracy prediction formula.
